Ambiance Design Celebrates 10 Years of Business!

Dan and Laura Hawley, owners of Ambiance Design

If you haven’t heard…. This January marks our 10 Year Anniversary.  I wanted to take you down memory lane and share with you a bit of our history and how it led to where we are today!

 Driven by the Down Turn

Ambiance Design a Hunter Douglas gallery, specializing in custom window treatments was founded in 2008 by Laura Hawley, an Air Force Veteran.  After leaving the Air Force, Laura began working for Hunter Douglas at a manufacturing site in Willow Grove.  Working in customer support, as well as an installer, she quickly became a product expert.  Unfortunately, in December of 2007, Laura lost her job due to the economic downturn.  Rather than giving up and switching career paths, she took the vast knowledge and 7+ years of experience to start her own business selling Hunter Douglas window treatments right out of her car.

Opening a Hunter Douglas Showroom

Dan and Laura Hawley open up Ambiance Design, a Hunter Douglas Showroom in Fort Washington.

Laura fully invested herself in her work, doing everything possible to become a successful entrepreneur and advance her small business.  With no former sales experience, she sought training from Gary Fedor, a Sandler Sales coach and keynote speaker.  She was then able to apply these learned skills to her vast and intricate knowledge of Hunter Douglas products.  Through continued success in sales, Laura purchased a small office space in Fort Washington to fulfill her dream of opening up the first Ambiance Design Showroom in 2013!

Expansion and Growth – Hunter Douglas Centurion Gallery

Like any great business owner, the goal is always progression and growth.  In 2013, brought in her husband Dan Hawley as a co-owner and business partner, serving as Ambiance Design’s Chief Executive Officer and primary installer.  Their daughter Andrea was hired as the Administrative Assistant, eventually leading to Office Manager.  Ambiance Design was becoming more than just a small business, it was now a thriving family business, with additional members joining the team each year!

Much of the growth and success of Ambiance Design can be contributed to the connections and support of others.  Joining various boards and committees in the Design, Build, and Remodeling industries, including NARI, IFDA, and HBA, Laura quickly realized the power and value of establishing professional relationships with others.  She is a big believer in supporting other small businesses and helping one another through sharing knowledge, resources, and clients as referrals.

In forming many friendships with local interior designers, Laura’s vision for Ambiance Design expanded.  She wanted to provide a space for designers to come in with their clients to discuss their window treatment needs, be it shades, shutters, blinds, or drapes.  In 2016, Dan and Laura sold their first showroom and purchased a beautiful space in the Shoppes of Village Square in Blue Bell, PA.  Beth Farquharson of BF Interiors was able to transform the empty space into a gorgeous Showroom Gallery.BF Interiors designed Ambiance Design's Hunter Douglas Gallery showroom

Additionally, at this time, the investment was made in becoming a Hunter Douglas Centurion level Gallery Dealer, providing exclusive promotions and collections to clients that they can see and operate firsthand with our many product samples.  With more space available, Ambiance Design expanded its offerings to include various fabric lines for custom drapery and upholstery, as well as bedding and wallpaper.  The showroom is stocked with the latest product books for clients and designers to browse through and order any samples directly to their home.

Community, Organizations, and Awards

Montgomery County Community College Veteran's Resource Center

Each year, Ambiance Design continues to grow, bringing in more staff, products, and clients!  The A-team consists of 8 hard-working and devoted members, (mostly family) with each person contributing to the success of the business.   As former Air Force Veterans, Dan and Laura donate money every November to a local Veteran’s organization from each project sold.  Laura also supports various trades, serving as the Financial Director for ASID, as well as on the board of the IDA (Interior Design Awards) committee.  Ambiance Design is a Gold Sponsor of IFDA too.

As a direct result of our commitment to our business and more importantly our clients, Ambiance Design has been recognized in various ways over the years.  We are a five-time winner of the Best of Customer Service award for Houzz, the leading platform for home remodeling and design.  Ambiance Design has also won the Contractor of the Year (COTY) award in 2014, 2015, and 2016 as well as two Synergy Awards from the Home Builder’s Association in 2017.  Most recently, we were nominated as One of the Best in Bucks for Window Treatments.  We are truly honored and blessed to have such amazing clients that have nominated us for these various awards and appreciate what we do. Our clients come first, and it is our pleasure and privilege to provide excellent service to each and every one of them!

Moving ForwardAmbiance Design van and showroom

We are eternally grateful for the past ten years and are excited to see where the next ten leads.  It is our goal to be Bucks and Montgomery County’s ultimate window treatment source, providing our clients with solutions to common concerns of privacy, light control, energy efficiency, and UV protection.  In our devotion to our clients, we plan to continue to expand our fabric and wallpaper lines by bringing in additional vendors to appeal to all tastes, styles, and budgets.  We also are working towards becoming an authorized service center to better assist in window treatment repairs!  Lastly, we are officially changing our company name to AD Window Treatments as an effort to provide more clarity to our community as to what we offer!

A HUGE Thank You to all who have supported our business, we would not be where we are today without each and every one of you.  Here’s to the next 10 years!
